220 Triathlon - PT-1000 review

>>30 September 2010

Durable option for the road runner who goes for the odd bit of rough.

Developed in conjunction with the British Army Physical Training Corps, there's a distinctly robust feel to the PT-1000. Indeed, it claims to be the world's firts running shoe designed to last 1,000 miles. It falls into the road/trail hybrid class of shoe and would be best suited to tame forays onto forest trails or canal towpaths. Although the traction offered by the lugged sole is good, challenge them with some steep, damp grass or wet rock and it becomes clear that they're a bit of a "soft-roader". On road and hard-packed trails, they're comfortable and perform well. However, throw in some roots and rocks, and the high foot position caused by all the cushioning/support becomes an ankle-turning liability. That said, if you're used to supportive and cushioned road shoes and want a similar beast for some light or occasional trail action, the PT-1000's are worth a look.
