ARE YOU TOUGH ENOUGH?
Running Fitness Magazine

It’s not every manufacturer that can say its shoes have been tested in the harsh terrains of Afghanistan or that its footwear has been final wear tested with the British Army in Norway.

But, for UK Gear, which has been building a reputation with its footwear, it can claim exactly these credentials for its two new training shoes, designed to withstand some of the world’s harshest environments.

Designed and developed in association with The British Army Physical Training Corps (APTC), the PT-03 DESERT and the PT-03 WINTER were subject to some of the most brutal testing methods around which means they’re built to survive some of the world’s most extreme temperatures and adverse weather conditions – and have now earned the right to bear the famous British Army ‘crossed swords’ insignia.

The PT-03 DESERT is a tough, sandproof running shoe, specifically designed to endure the world’s most hot and arid environments. The shoe took over 12 months to develop with the APTC before going through final wear testing with the British Army in the arid conditions of Afghanistan.

Built on a uniquely formulated midsole, PT-03 DESERT is designed to deliver excellent durability and shock absorption in extreme heat. Featuring a tough sandproof upper with optional detachable gators both of which protect your feet and shoe from the environment.

Given that the UK has not exactly been sub-tropical this summer, it was difficult to match the testing conditions for the PT-03 DESERT. But it is a comfortable shoe, and if only we could find some sand, we’d test it more thoroughly.

Perhaps more relevant for the British climate, is the PT-03 WINTER. Given that it’s specifically designed to endure the world’s coldest and most inclement weather conditions, a run round the fields in the September rain was probably insulting.

The PT-03 WINTER is built on a uniquely formulated midsole which delivers excellent durability and shock absorption in wet and extreme low temperatures. Featuring a tough waterproof upper, our feet were dry no matter how hard the rain bucketed down (and it did!). Together with an abrasion resistant cold-grip outsole and a bio-flexible underfoot bruise plate, this shoe is designed to assist you run safely and comfortably in the coldest and wettest of environments and is more than cut out to handle anything the UK can chuck at it.

David Hinde, founder of UK Gear, said: “At UK Gear we build our performance footwear to be tough and that’s why we develop our products in association with some of the most physically demanding people on the planet, the British Army Physical Training Corps. These elite fitness professionals are involved in every stage of the development of our products and test them in some of the harshest conditions on earth. Only when the Army have approved them do we consider our products ‘built to survive’.”
